Flickr users have uploaded some amazing old photos of cowboys. Here are some of the standouts:
I am curious, how old are some of these photos? If you are able to find out would be able to post the dates?
great photos, but I’m also curious about their age. Any idea of the time range that these came from?
belt loop help narrow down the date since belt loops weren’t invented until 1922 i could be wrong if they were invented earlier they weren’t popular until later
Flicker users find the photos in family trunks or at tag sales or antique stores. They come from a variety of people and no dates were given.
Now that’s just awesome. Two of the photos are from Broken Bow, NE and Belle Fourche, SD. I happen to originally be from Broken Bow, and live not 45 minutes away from Belle Fourche now. Hah!
Some of these look like candidates for a caption contest! I can only imagine what some of those riders said after they got off the horse/buffalo. I’m certain it wasn’t as pc as we have to be now.
Have any Mexican vaqueros? I’ve got Pancho Villa.
Ralph R Doubelday (or RR Doubleday in some of those pics) did various photography of rodeos between 1926-1932. Gives you an idea.
These are real Cowboy’s, not the one’s you see at the honky tonks these day’s. Proud and tough guys. Not Broke Back Mountain kind either,LOL
The one with the subtitle “Bare Back Riding?” should be titled “barely riding”. Great stuff!
These pictures prove to me, once again, what I’ve known for a long time: I was born 100 years too late, I’m living in the wrong place, my horses are too nice, my chaps are too clean and I hang out with the wrong kind of people.
Dear God, have mercy on my soul. I confess the error of my ways and seek to change my lifestyle. Give me one more chance to live-out my calling and honor you with a courageous, manly life. I will gladly forsake the comforts I now enjoy if you let me die with a few scars, a well-spring of great cowboy stories and the peace that comes from living a hard life with dignity. I will trade my tall, sleek and beautiful Appendix Quarter horse for a good gun. I will sacrifice my other fine horses for a string of fierce, rough-hewn western steeds. I ask that you cover me with the stars at night and let me drink from mountain brooks during the day. Let the sun tan my skin and bleach my clothes. Let me live out the remainder of my days in the wilderness…far from civilization, but close to you. –Amen.
Kit is my 1st cousin 3x removed! (:
The one titled “bareback riding?” Is my grandfather.
