One of our first and most popular posts on the site was “The Brad Pitt Rule.” It’s a little heuristic to use to know whether or not you should pursue a woman if she says no to a date. We figured it was about time to turn it into a video.

This seem like an interesting video, only if it had captions on it. I know YouTube has their beta captions, but it’s not that great and missing some words or sentence. I’m Deaf myself and I come to this website frequently, I’m pretty sure there are some other deaf reader or other people would love to see the captions incorporate in the videos.

Yes another one of your great AOM videos. It was funny yet at the same time helpful.
Very useful.
I applaud everyone who helped make that video drop.

Why does Bill have a wedding ring on? Does his wife know he is trying to pick up chics from the office?

4 Brandon August 10, 2013 at 4:02 pm

Great! Please turn the retro style instructional video into a series!

5 Chapell August 10, 2013 at 4:07 pm

Isn’t one of the most basic AoM rules is to never go watch a movie on a date?

6 Lloyd August 10, 2013 at 5:28 pm

Why is bill asking Darlene out when he has a wedding ring on?

7 Joe August 10, 2013 at 9:30 pm

Way to go Bill.

Loving the style of the video. Fully agree with Brandon that this should be turned into a series of videos! Also agree with Danny that it needs captions!

LOL! I didn’t notice the wedding ring first time around. Nice catch.

Funny video.

@Mike, I was thinking the same thing, haha!

Danny, good idea about the captions option. My son is deaf so I translated the basic message of this video for him.
Deaf dudes could benefit from the AofM info too!

Great video, If only I had seen it 45 years ago.

13 Steve August 11, 2013 at 1:46 pm

Ok, that’s way funny. Good advice too! Great video.

14 JJR August 11, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Hilarious! More please.

This works great for asking some kinds of people. Some of us are not that suave and some of us are not that vague.

When someone asked me on my first date, I didn’t even know whether I wanted to date him since I barely knew him. The second person who asked me out was also someone I barely knew, but I had decided to give people like this a chance. But the first two times he asked me out, he asked me to do things I thought sounded boring, so I said no. (Then one of my friends let him in on the whole story and he asked me to do something that sounded more fun and I said yes.)

Now I’m good enough at communicating with someone that they will know (without having to use this rule) whether I am interested in dating them and, if not, why not–so they can know whether to clear up a misunderstanding, wait until a better time, or move on to someone else.

Great video but you should have used a rotary phone instead of a push button phone and Bill should have taken his wedding ring off! =0)

I love this!!!!!!!!!!!!

18 Joe August 11, 2013 at 11:18 pm

Darlene had an iPhone, lol

19 Brett McKay August 11, 2013 at 11:31 pm

@Brandon/Nick-

The instructional videos are a series — we do one about once a month.

I remember when I first read that initial Brad Pitt Rule post. Totally changed the way I look at dating. Great video Brett!

21 Rob August 12, 2013 at 5:39 am

Haha great video! Normally I’m not much of a fan of videos on blogs (much harder /impossible to access at work/on the move than simple text), but thought I’d give this one a go and loved it!

This is great. Not chasing a woman sometimes brings them back around to you. But I wouldn’t depend on it (just wouldn’t cross them off my list of future possibilities). It’s a good idea to have options. If you do like cabbage head did, you’re more likely to find someone who enjoys your company as much as you will theirs.

23 Kevin August 15, 2013 at 10:46 pm

I’m not deaf but i completely agree, every man can benefit from Aom. captions! captions! captions!

24 Tom August 27, 2013 at 7:06 pm

Great video, reminds me of the instructional film from the film Dodgeball haha

25 Jamie September 3, 2013 at 11:02 pm

Haha, wish I’d known that in high school. At least he was decisive in having an activity planned, and not being all like “would you like to do something, sometime.”

26 Thomas September 4, 2013 at 4:34 pm

These are useful for people who do not have much experience with dates like me.

27 Stan Redmond September 7, 2013 at 12:07 pm

Shame on Bill. Fishing from the company pier is verboten.

28 Mr. T November 3, 2013 at 3:13 pm

Sandra was way hotter anyway.

29 Brad November 24, 2013 at 1:30 pm

Darlene had an iphone… with Brad Pitt’s number and photo in her contacts.

30 Will April 17, 2014 at 4:11 pm

Agreed with Danny too – I am near deaf and could not make out the captions, shame.
