What You’ve Been Missing on Dying Breed

A man sitting on a wooden bench outdoors points to the screen of an open laptop displaying the Dying Breed website with its circular logo.

Back in January, we launched a new project: Dying Breed, our Substack newsletter. It’s quickly grown into a fantastic little community. A big thanks to everyone who’s already joined! Your support means the world to Kate and me.

Michael Easter, author of The Comfort Crisis, called Dying Breed “the PhD of The Art of Manliness,” which I think is a fitting analogy. While AoM and DB share the same spirit, the latter is where we publish our more thoughtful writing. It’s the place where we share the bigger ideas we’ve been thinking about, and while AoM is aimed at men, DB is written for men and women alike.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, here’s what you’re missing as a paying subscriber to Dying Breed:

  • Deep Dives: Every week, we publish a longer-form article exploring historical figures, forgotten virtues, cultural phenomenon, and timeless wisdom.
  • Sunday Firesides: Each Sunday, you’ll receive a short reflection to help you start your week. All the archives of previously published Firesides are available exclusively on Dying Breed as well.
  • Community Discussion: Drop a line in the comment section to interact with Brett, Kate, and other Dying Breed readers.
  • A Focused, Ad-Free Reading Experience: No distractions, no sponsored content, no algorithms — just thoughtful writing crafted to help you think deeper and live better.

For $5/month or $50/year, you’ll receive two quality pieces weekly, plus access to our growing library of archived content and community of thoughtful, engaged readers. It’s also a way to support Kate’s and my work directly; if you’re a fan of the AoM website or podcast, think of it as a $50 donation where you get access to an awesome newsletter as a thank you gift.

As a reminder, AoM articles and podcast episodes will continue to be free.

Here’s a breakdown of what we’ve published on Dying Breed so far this year. You can always try a 7-day free trial to the newsletter. It will give you a chance to explore these articles and decide if you’d like to become a paying subscriber.
