Chrysler “Imported from Detroit” & “Style” Commercials

Chrysler has been putting out some awesome commercials that I think AoM readers would appreciate.

The media and webosphere has been abuzz about Chrysler’s “Imported from Detroit” Super Bowl Commercial featuring Eminem. And I agree. It’s awesome. Love the message of resilience and hardihood. Check it out.

Chrysler also recently put out another commercial that isn’t getting as much buzz, but that I think is just as brilliant. It’s all about bringing back classic American style. I think the folks who put this commercial together did a superb job tapping into a feeling that many Americans are experiencing today. Watch:

The brand is lost thanks to unions, reckless business strategies, and government interference. I don’t think we’ll ever get the old Chrysler back =[

I enjoyed both commercials, but personally I find Eminem’s opinion on “luxury” and “the finer things in life” (and iced tea for that matter) irrelevant.

Good Commercials of course. Reminds me of last years Levis commercial ” oh pioneers, with a re-reading of that famous Walt Whitman poem.

Are advertisements our new poetry? The source of our cultural narrative? Interesting thought, once the purview of social realism artist, muralists and others, such as the WPA.

Think about this. Cutural icons: Smith And Wesson, Ford, John Deere, Budweiser, Carhart, Jack Daniels, Peterbuilt
vs Cutural icons: FDR, Crockett, Bullock, Eisenhower, Lincoln, Grant, Sherman, Whitman, Yeager, US Marshal Service, NASA, Peace Corp, Jack London,

Do we now need a marketing department in order to recognize a hero?

Yes!

Although, Andrew, you have a point, it is important to see that they are making some steps in the right directions.
Bring America back to America, hopefully my generation will start that in motion. I know nearly everyone I talk to that’s around my age is trying the best they can to bring the Greatest Generation back. Start back where it all began.
Personally, I’m excited, they’re bringing life back into the rust belt. I hope they keep it up.

Finally: This is my first comment, I’ve been reading for a LONG time. Love the site, and it really helps me in ways I never knew I needed help.
Thanks guys,

Ok, I am posting on this because all of the facebook responses, save a few, were so negative. First of all the Eminem commercial was great and the other commercial here was just as fantastic. I grew up in Flint which is another Motor City and not far from Detroit. I now live in West Michigan in a city named Grand Rapids that I have called home now for years. I love Michigan and what people do NOT realize is that the commercial means so much more to the people here. It instilled a sense of pride in the face of really depressing times. EVERYONE in the State was buzzing the next day with pure happiness that one of cities got some proper recognition for once. Detroit and Flint always get horribly negative press and it was good to see for once something positive.
A lot of people have commented on facebook on how horrible Chrysler is. “They have plants in Canada”, “The workers do drugs and are drunk”, “Eminem is an idiot”. Being in a state that has been in a recession for the past 10 years, I can tell you I don’t care about any of these comments. To even have a car company have a plant in Detroit when every other car plant has LEFT, is huge to so many.

I got one was thrilled to see this and I wish others could see the bigger picture. Am I angry with GM and Chrysler over decisions that ran my city and so many others into the ground? Yes. My father was laid off, many friends and family are struggling. It’s hard. However, am I happy to see something positive about my State for a change? Absolutely. Am I happy to see that perhaps this State can pull itself up by its bootstraps. YES! Hardiness and resilience indeed! :)

The second commercial about style was great! I am happy to see both these ads and thank you for highlighting them both.

PS- sorry for the length and know that many of us ladies love this site as well. Thanks for bringing back manliness!

I have the “style” commercial posted on my facebook page. It’s awesome.

Love them, but let’s not forget the Jeep Manifesto commercial from earlier this year.

Go Chrysler Corp!

It is certainly ‘Manly’ to have your facts straight, so while I am sad to bring this news to you, it’s a fact that Chrysler is no longer owned by an American company, as this commercial would have you believe, it is owned by the Italian company Fiat…read here:

On June 10, 2009, Chrysler Group LLC emerged from a Chapter 11 reorganization and announced a plan for a partnership with Italian automaker Fiat. Fiat holds a 25% stake in the new company, with an option to increase its stake to 35%, and up to 51%, if it meets financial and developmental goals for the company. Fiat’s stake cannot go beyond 49% until the government has been paid back in full.

I love the “Imported from Detroit” commercial. I don’t even like Eminem, but the commercial was awesome. I think it struck a chord with many of my fellow Michiganders. It’s about Heart. We’ve been in a depression for many years with people and businesses fleeing the state like rats off a sinking ship. Both my city, Flint, and Detroit were both rated in the “top” 10 miserable cities by Forbes. As we watched the commercial, you could feel a sense of pride emerging, a sense of “yeah, we’ve been beat down but what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” It may have been paid for by Chrysler, but it made Michigan proud.

Now if they can just make cars that look and feel half as cool as the old ones, they’ll be in business…a fin anyone, maybe a contour or two?

Native Michigan Lady, thank you. I’m from Detroit too, and you’re right, the day after the Super Bowl every one of my friends posted this video on Facebook, or a status that said “Imported from Detroit.” This ad means so much to us here, even though the auto industry has not been a friend to us in recent years.

I like the sentiment that Chrysler is putting out there and appreciate how they’re trying to bring a sense of pride to Detroit. BULLY! However, I find it poetic justice that Chrysler is/was having such financial hardships and have been taken over by foreign interests after what they did to American Motors Corporation in 1987. Anyone remember what they did to that independent American company? Aggressively took them over, shut them down, bulldozed everything, destroyed all existing parts and stole Jeep.

The commercial is awesome, the graphic, meaning, statues and paintings in the commercial inspires me. Especially that one painting of those working men with extremely strong forearms make me want to work out my forearms more. Eminem is awesome, but without him I think the commercial would be pretty much the same.
