Based out of Chicago, the Optimo Hat Company is one of the last traditional hat shops in the world. Each hat they make is handmade using the same tools and techniques that hat makers have used for over a century. This short little video shows the hats being made. Pure craftsmanship.

Beautiful.
Never understood why hats went out of style except for the ball/golf cap.
Batsakes in Cincinnati, OH, is quite famous, too. http://maps.google.com/maps/place?rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=cincinnati+hat+shop&fb=1&gl=us&hq=hat+shop&hnear=Cincinnati,+OH&cid=4348382233938066222
Check out biltmore hats of Guelph ON Canada. They are a old tradition too.
@ Bruce Williamson:
Advertising, It’s pretty hard to get a company logo onto a Fedora.
Also, Ballcaps are cheap to make, and originally were given away free at promotions.
It wasn’t fair, but it worked.

O’farrell’s Hats in Santa Fe Nm. Ask for VanDike.
I had a great time with the friendly staff at http://www.hatbox.com/index.php here in Austin, TX when I bought my derby…and fedora…and driver’s cap. It’s a different animal than these cats, who seem to rock the authenticity to the bone…but, for some friendly counsel and as a means for easin’ my dome into it’s own unique sense of style, seriously south of Chi-town, these folks did me right.
If you’re in the Fort Worth area, look at Peter’s Brothers. They’ve been doing great work since 1917, they’re made with great attention to detail, a great product of craftsmanship.
