Nice work on these Brett and Kate.
The hard work really has paid off in the quality of these articles.

Just to make a little more work for yourselves have you considered flipping this Honor series into Podcasts?
I'm thinking interviews with some of the sources and authors perhaps. I think they'll be able to give real world examples placing this dense topic in a digestible context. Just a thought. Personally I've enjoyed the podcasts you've produced thus far and think it's a great medium to work with the articles on your site.

Keep up the solid work. Cheers.

Brandon, although Wikipedia is undoubtedly a more reliable source of information on Reform theology than, say, Reformed theologians, my favorite of those, R.C. Sproul, agrees with LG in his description of Total Depravity. It is illogical to state that TD means man is as depraved as he can be; after all, even Hitler appreciated art and loved his mother. Rather, a better name for the concept according to Sproul would be Radical Corruption, i.e. that our corruption extends to the root of our nature, While not exhaustive, it is pervasive, affecting every aspect of our lives and making it no more possible for man to seek God without His drawing them than for Lazarus to come out of the tomb prior to Jesus calling him.

From "Blast From the Past":

Troy: "You know, I asked him about that. He said, good manners are just a way of showing other people we have respect for them. See, I didn't know that, I thought it was just a way of acting all superior... I thought a "gentleman" was somebody that owned horses. But it turns out, his short and simple definition of a lady or a gentleman is, someone who always tries to make sure the people around him or her are as comfortable as possible."
Eve: "Where do you think he got all that information?"
Troy: "From the oddest place - his parents. I mean, I don't think I got that memo from mine."

As an avid reader of this site, I would like to personally thank you both for all of the time and work you put into these posts. I travel far and wide on the internet world and the real world to discover things like this that we do not talk about as a culture anymore. For all that you have done to assist me, in more ways than you can imagine, on my journey can never be repaid (I have your books, so I figured that's a start!), so for all your time and effort I say Thank You!

Well, glad to see the clarification on Calvinism. Because it never denies the human responsibility, and clearly as Paul to the Thessalonians, hard work and working to have, and better, working to have to share is never dismissed. The other thing, I would not call the abandoning of Calvinism as revival, it is the opposite, revival as the Great Awakening are missing from centuries ago. But great and informative post. AoM without a doubt is one of my preferred sites since like a year ago.

Look at the Titanic! We all know there weren't enough lifeboats, and that the 1st class passengers were treated preferentially. Who were most likely to perish?

The highest death rate was for men in second class (92%). Compare that with the rate for women in second class (12%) and men in third class (84%).

These middle class men, with their ideas of honour, were most likely to stand aside and let others take their place on a boat.

PS Class is alive and well in the UK! Whatever our politicians may say.

Interesting to be reminded of college fraternities being started by the Victorians. Alas today, "fratboys" are mostly synonymous with unmannerly louts and boors ... at least on American campuses
