I once learned that by practicing on an inflated baloon, we can become masterful with a straight razor. Lather-up an inflated baloon. Begin shaving off the lather. Ultimately, we will do it without nicking (popping) the baloon.

I just had my first shave in an old time barbershop not too long ago. I’m so glad i found it. Most relaxing and exciting thing you can do. I’m sort of suprised i found it in Fargo ND

No it’s not. The two are completely unrelated. A facial at a spa involves, among other processes, exfoliation – something most men do far too little of. This sort of shave be pleasant, effective, exhilarating, even soothing, however the analogy is faulty. A facial is a facial, hair removal is hair removal.

I’ve had two professional shaves, one at Aidan Gill in New Orleans and one at The Art of Shaving in Denver. Aidan Gill was AMAZING and took over an hour. I was surprised they used a Mach 3 instead of a straight razor but they claimed that nothing beats it. I then had a straight razor shave in Denver and it was excruciating. My neck was shredded and it took me several days to heal. I shave at home with a safety razor and prefer it over any other method. I might have just had a bad shave but I’m scared to try a straight razor shave again.

I had no idea a barber shop like this existed so close to where I live. It’ll be worth the 45 minute drive just to visit Clay’s. Probably driven by there a hundred times. Glad you posted this and loved the photos of the experience.

Scrolling through the photos I quickly recognised the Ranger tab plaques he has on his wall. From one service member to another, will you please pass my thanks to Mark for his service next time you see him. If im passing through, I may have to stop in his shop for a shave. Rangers lead the way.

I use an electric shaver now only because I get really bad ingrowns if I don’t. I have tried the Mach 3′s and every other expensive multi-blade razor on the market but to no avail. I want a closer shave than what the electric can offer so I was wondering if a straight razor will be better for me or not….

Thoughts?

Nice photos! But the shave doesn’t look very good in my opinion. The skin looks a bit irritated and it doesn’t look like a close shave at all.
