The 4563 Red Wing Boot Giveaway

Red Wing recently released a new boot as part of their awesome Heritage collection: the 4563. First developed for farmers, Red Wing introduced the 8-inch round toe work boot in 1919. The combination of two traditional styles, round toe boots provided the comfort of an oxford with the durability of a work boot. The round toe design made the boots more durable, as it was achieved by eliminating a seam by using one larger piece of leather instead of sewing together two smaller pieces.

Another great heritage feature of the 4563 is Red Wing’s signature Traction Tred sole, which was used on their first Irish Setter boots made in the 1950s. Farmers and upland game hunters loved the self-cleaning sole because it would keep the mud off their boots as they worked.

These boots go great with a pair of jeans, whether you’re at a worksite or out on the town. And best of all they’re Made in America, from leather crafted at a tannery in Minnesota.

The 4563 is available exclusively at Nordstroms, but Red Wing offered me a pair to give away to a lucky AoM reader as well.

I have a going away camping trip for a good friend soon. Before his well-wishes and goodbyes, I would break them in while traditional wet-shaving in the morning. I would wear them to work, in my office building with my suit on all day and set up camp in them with my flannel on..I will document in full if this in fact takes place. I have never owned a pair of Red Wings and have always wanted to. Please make my dream come true.

6602 Stephen January 12, 2012 at 10:38 am

It seems I’m a latecomer to this contest, but count me in. I got myself some hiking boots a few years ago that quickly became my favorite all around shoes. They are completely worn out and falling apart now and very much in need of replacement.

6603 Erica Floyd January 12, 2012 at 10:47 am

I would give these to my husband and he would wear them everywhere, seriously. He would love to have these SO much!

6604 Rob Flax January 12, 2012 at 10:59 am

I’d wear ‘em hiking!

6605 Jesse January 12, 2012 at 11:03 am

Hell, I would wear them pretty much everywhere I go.

6606 Rodney Walker January 12, 2012 at 11:06 am

I’d wear them on the Appalchian Trail. I’m making my way from Georgia to Maine by hiking 40 or so miles of the trail every year. I’ve been doing it for three years so far. In my retirement (hopefully only about 4 years from now) I plan to hike a couple of hundred miles of it every year, maybe even complete a thru hike. (the entire 2200 mile trail in one year)

6607 Griffo January 12, 2012 at 11:09 am

Out on a date and then to bed.

6608 Eamon S January 12, 2012 at 11:13 am

Taking my son out with Grandpa to learn to shoot

6609 Nick Chernikovich January 12, 2012 at 11:14 am

I would wear these bad boys everywhere! Hiking, camping, fishing, shopping with the wife, you name it!!

6610 Justin January 12, 2012 at 11:21 am

You said it – out in the woods or out on the town; these look like they’d easily become my new favorite footwear.

6611 Reid Johnson January 12, 2012 at 11:22 am

I wish I had these this last year so they could hike Half Dome, volcanoes on Kona, the Grand Canyon, and the AT with me. I have no idea where they’d go next but I can’t wait to find out!

6612 Matt January 12, 2012 at 11:24 am

I would wear them the same places I wore my last pair of leather boots (which have unfortunately worn completely out)… out offroading, travelling with my family’s business across North America, hiking in the beautiful Appalachian mountains, to gigs with my band… the list goes on. I loved my last pair, but they were too cheap to last a lifetime. I’ve always wanted a quality pair of boots, but can’t afford them. I would love a pair!

6613 Keith J. Castaldo January 12, 2012 at 11:31 am

I would enjoy wearing them to family pheasant hunts, Friendly Hikes in the Poconos of PA., and Fishing with my wife and kids. I would treat and polish a fine boot like that because I have never had a opportunity to afford a premium pair of boots such as those in my life.

6614 Pedro January 12, 2012 at 11:36 am

I would wear these boots to work on rainy or snowy or cold days. I would wear these boots when running errands. I would wear these boots to outdoor concerts. I would wear these boots on fall jaunts through the park by the river.

6615 Chris January 12, 2012 at 11:37 am

I would wear them around campus because in college you need to wear shoes that not only look good but also are rugged enough to get you through some muddy trails to class

6616 Big hutch January 12, 2012 at 11:41 am

I would wear them on the beach while eating grapes and prosciutto.

6617 Dan January 12, 2012 at 11:44 am

I would wear them to work farmn’. The inner seam of my work boots it torn out and that cold wet snow is getting to me a real pain

6618 WAYNE BLAKE January 12, 2012 at 11:45 am

6619 TJ January 12, 2012 at 11:47 am

I would wear them as my survival boots for the impending zombie apocalypse! LOL Awesome boots!

6620 Ed January 12, 2012 at 11:48 am

I’m thinking everyday wear..

6621 Will Davis January 12, 2012 at 11:59 am

I’m about to go on an expedition to summit Mt. Everest and I think these will be essential in keeping my toes warm on the journey.

6622 Cody Hartmann January 12, 2012 at 12:00 pm

These would serve me well in all affairs. Sneakers are for running, boots are for making a statement. These would fall right into place amongst my others (Frye, Sendra, Florsheim). Personally these would be worn everywhere, in the shop at work, navigating the treachery of the aisles at the local big box store, or in the pristine cypress swamps of the Florida wilderness. When you work hard, and play harder, its an absolute must for everyman to have a boot that can keep up and do both. This Redwing is a must.

6623 ChrisMcG January 12, 2012 at 12:00 pm

I’d wear them to work, camping, church (after a little cleaning) and maybe even to bed — these boots are the best!

6624 Scott Nelson January 12, 2012 at 12:03 pm

I would wear them everwhere as the sole just fell off my old boots!!

6625 Jorge Lores January 12, 2012 at 12:04 pm

I’d wear them hiking on the Lake District here in the UK. I am a HUGE fan of Red Wings Boots and I would gladly buy them if they were avail;able in the UK. Awesome site BTW.

6626 Anson January 12, 2012 at 12:07 pm

I’d wear them to work on my truck, run errands, and shovel snow. And probably more than that too.

6627 Chuck January 12, 2012 at 12:09 pm

I’d wear them while I read “The Art of Manliness”.

6628 Doug Godden January 12, 2012 at 12:10 pm

I’ll take them hunting!

6629 Erik January 12, 2012 at 12:17 pm

I’d wear them hiking around Big Sur California!

6630 Tim January 12, 2012 at 12:27 pm

I’d show them all the sites! They’d be very happy here.

6631 Robert Frisch January 12, 2012 at 12:32 pm

When I go on musky hunting trips in Northern Wisconsin, I also enjoy a walk in the woods. My 25 year old red wing setters are about done. A new pair would be great.

6632 James Kerr January 12, 2012 at 12:32 pm

They’re work boots, I will wear them for work.

6633 Austin January 12, 2012 at 12:34 pm

I would use these wonderful pieces of footwear for multiple things, on both sides of the dirt fence. Firts, I love the way they look, and the way they feel, so they go with me to the office. Yes, I even wear jeans to the office. Next, out on my little farm. My goats, chickens, and dogs will get to see how nice my mud-covered Red Wings look while they’re being fed and tended to. Heck, I might even add a third use… Taking my wife out in my truck to dine at one of our fine downtown eating establishments. Oh yeah… They’d get used here!

6634 Collin January 12, 2012 at 12:34 pm

I’d take them with me into this new year of 2012, and all the adventures included therewithin.

6635 Matt Paulson January 12, 2012 at 12:41 pm

To where my grandpa taught my dad to shoot, where my dad taught me, and where I taught my son.

6636 Patrick January 12, 2012 at 12:41 pm

I would wear these boots hiking, plowing the driveway, chopping wood for the fire; then clean them-up to take my wife out for date night. The perfect boots.

6637 Matt January 12, 2012 at 12:50 pm

I’d wear them every other day, giving them a chance to rest and dry out, like you should with any quality footwear. I would also continue to kick ass in them.

6638 Raleigh January 12, 2012 at 12:56 pm

I would wear them to work every day. I don’t usually need steel toes in the shop, so they would be perfect.

6639 Phil January 12, 2012 at 12:57 pm

I’d wear them at my deli job and to the local bluegrass festival while sipping on wine.

6640 Jason January 12, 2012 at 1:00 pm

I wear boots as my evryday footwear with jeans. You just can’t go wrong. These are great looking boots and would be proud to sport these.

6641 Buddha January 12, 2012 at 1:04 pm

Why would i love a new pair of red wing boots. well i need them! I’m from canada! i just woke up to 2 ft. of fresh snow…. my current boots they are well….. running shoes. Help my commute and my feet and my blue jeans survive this winter, and all it has to throw at me. Not to mention I need these boots for on the hot line in my restaurant, where i’ll use them as a learning tool for all the young apprentice cooks. Learning too? Yes because they will all be warned where my size 9 red wing boots will be placed if they screw up dinner service.

6642 Gary January 12, 2012 at 1:05 pm

The older i get the more i am looking for a simpler life. Whether it is a jacket i can wear with jeans or slacks, or using time tested products to with or a pair of boots that will cover every situation in my life. A simpler life is bocoming my new motto!

6643 Joshua M January 12, 2012 at 1:12 pm

Man, those are some fine boots. I could wear them all day at work and then just leave them on for walking the trails with my lady after supper.

6644 Scott Brumwell January 12, 2012 at 1:22 pm

I’d wear them everywhere. Those are sweet boots.

I’d wear these to work and to the shooting range.

6647 Steven Jones January 12, 2012 at 1:32 pm

I will wear these boots in the sculpture courses I teach. I teach part-time at three different universities in the DC area. The classroom are really industrial mainly places with welding equipment, torches, and saws. These boots, besides the safety and support they provide, will be a symbol to the students of classiness, fine design, and rugged use. Size 12 sculptures on my feet.

6648 Jonathan L January 12, 2012 at 1:32 pm

I’d wear these to work and to the shooting range. Everyone needs a nice pair of boots.

6649 Daniel January 12, 2012 at 1:33 pm

These boots would be great for just about everything I do:
-exercise: flipping tractor tires and chopping wood (their thick soles and high laces give me the stability I need to throw around a 350 pound tire and slaughter some logs)
-work: again, the stability offered by these boots is just what I need to stand up and knock down the walls between me and my next accomplishment
-playtime: with three boys, I know how much my mini-men wanna be like their dad, these boots are perfect for a 4 year-old to try in and feel like a real man…not sure I would want it any other way
-prayer: at the end of a day filled with hard work, the only thing I have left to do is ask God for wisdom about what to do next in my bad ass boots

6650 Anael Berrouet January 12, 2012 at 1:33 pm

Everywhere for the cold canadian winter!

6651 Dan January 12, 2012 at 1:39 pm

I can tell you one place I wouldn’t be wearing these boots, and that is to work. Work being the city morgue!

6652 J. Spencer January 12, 2012 at 1:39 pm

On shoots.

I do freelance video production and it’d be great help to have some solid work-wear. I shoot in state parks, fields, hills, everywhere and sneakers only get you so far.

6653 Patrick January 12, 2012 at 1:41 pm

I’d like to wear them everywhere. Not only are they rugged and stylish, but they’d make me a little taller.

6654 john chambers January 12, 2012 at 1:46 pm

I’d wear them to work and anywhere else I wouldn’t wear sneakers or dress shoes

6655 Jason January 12, 2012 at 1:49 pm

I saw a guy wearing something like these in Starbucks last fall–it wasn’t right somehow. I would need to wear them using a chainsaw…then to Starbucks.

6660 John Hamlett January 12, 2012 at 2:19 pm

Whitewater State Park – Red Wing Minnesota. From my house I’d need to drive right past the Red Wing Shoe Factory to get there.

6661 Len Whitney January 12, 2012 at 2:24 pm

I would wear them to work everyday. As a utility lineman for the past 15 years I know the value of a good pair of boots. As a single father, I could never afford a pair as nice as these. I go through maybe two pair of boots a year, which, added together, still don’t equal the price or for that matter, the quality of these. I work hard to provide for my son and I and am by no means complaining about our quality of life, it’s just that this website, although really cool in many ways, often shows products which are, regrettably out of my reach financially. I mean $175 dollar ties and such….again I’m not complaining…I just have to be manly on a more reduced budget I guess. Thanks for your consideration.

6662 Stefhan B January 12, 2012 at 2:34 pm

I will wear them all over the Great State of Utah. Quite often in Capitol Reef NP.

6674 brendan January 12, 2012 at 3:27 pm

I’d wear my redwing boots, first in my friend’s pole barn while I help refurbish his 1966 O’day sailboat, then to Joe Lewis Arena.

I will where them everywhere. I love redoing but never been able to get a pair. I will be sure to where there any and everywhere. What more could a pair of shoes want? Other than to bee taken care of. I will be sure to waterproof them as well!

6684 Julius Alexander January 12, 2012 at 4:07 pm

I would love to go hiking in Guadalupe Mountains National Park before a quick trip to Carlsbad Caverns. They would be great on the trail in the great outdoors!

6687 Mark January 12, 2012 at 4:13 pm

I’d been looking at Red Wings for a new pair of hiking boots and motorcycle boots. Made in Michigan! I’d take these little beauties on a ride around Lake Michigan and hike around the Upper Penninsula to Lake Superior and check out what Pictured Rocks has to offer me. To be honest, I’ll do that reguardless.

6688 Jesse P. January 12, 2012 at 4:15 pm

I would like these boots as nice, everyday shoes. Right now, I have no nice shoes other than a pair of oxfords that have cracked from old age. I haven’t the money to have them refurbished, and my only other pair of shoes are mocs.

6689 Timothy Haley January 12, 2012 at 4:19 pm

I would wear them everywhere! They are so versatile! In the office or on the mountain, in NYC or Kentucky, the bachelor party or romance night, chopping wood, or on a flight! I need a size nine!

6690 Derek Y January 12, 2012 at 4:26 pm

6699 Kevin January 12, 2012 at 4:56 pm

Living here in Florida, I would put on my board shorts along with the Red Wing Boots and hit he beach. The sun will heat the leather & they will mold around my feet like cozy slippers.

6700 Noel January 12, 2012 at 4:59 pm

Where to wear a classic set of Redwings? The answer to that is simple. Everywhere. To the office, working around the house, riding the motorcycle, fishing, hunting, and everywhere in between.
