Red Wing recently released a new boot as part of their awesome Heritage collection: the 4563. First developed for farmers, Red Wing introduced the 8-inch round toe work boot in 1919. The combination of two traditional styles, round toe boots provided the comfort of an oxford with the durability of a work boot. The round toe design made the boots more durable, as it was achieved by eliminating a seam by using one larger piece of leather instead of sewing together two smaller pieces.
Another great heritage feature of the 4563 is Red Wing’s signature Traction Tred sole, which was used on their first Irish Setter boots made in the 1950s. Farmers and upland game hunters loved the self-cleaning sole because it would keep the mud off their boots as they worked.
These boots go great with a pair of jeans, whether you’re at a worksite or out on the town. And best of all they’re Made in America, from leather crafted at a tannery in Minnesota.
The 4563 is available exclusively at Nordstroms, but Red Wing offered me a pair to give away to a lucky AoM reader as well.

I would love to have a pair of these comfortable Boots in surgery. I practice Orthopedics. During arthroscopic proceedures there is always a lot of irrigation solution leaking onto the operating room floor. Preforming this type of surgery requires a good view of the affected joint. This exposure is obtained by manipulating the extremity. This requires me to use shreliable traction to which to obtain Even during joint replacement surgery blood can get on the flooroften . There is . is always

I’d love a pair. Phoo, I’ll even drive down to Red Wing and pick ‘em up :)
Id show them off at work. Im a 600 ton press operator working 12 hour shifts and these would be the best boots for the job. After I won them Id show them off to everyone at work and brag about redwing and brag even more about AOM!
I’d wear them everyday on my 2 mile walk to campus. Keep my feet dry when the weather gets nasty!
I would wear these boots on the 4 kilometer walk to my highschool in 7 inches of snow, I am sure they would keep my toes nice and warm. Also, I would wear them pretty much everywhere else. After reading the article, I found that the sole design is quite interesting, because my current pair of (cold) shoes that I wear to school, water and mud gets trapped inside the sole, and I walk around squeaking for quite a while.
Cheers,
Drew
I would love to have a pair of these comfortable Boots in surgery. I am a Physician Assistant working specializing in assisting with arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. Arthroscopys require good visualization of the joint achieved by manipulating of the patent’s extremity.
During surgery a mild salt solution is continuously pumped into the joint to distend the joint lining to aid visualization. About 75% of this solution is recovered using a suction device. The remainder flows onto the operating room floor. This fluid pooling around me makes the floor quite slippery. Footwear with excellent traction is essential. Resistance to salt is an added bonus
These boots will be excellent for this wet environment. They are designed to maintain traction on wet and oily surfaces so they will help eliminate the traction issue allowing me to focus on the patient. As a bonus, they will allow air circulation discouraging fungal infections unlike the rubber boots I currently use.
I would wear them hiking through the Scottish Highlands.
I would wear these boots to work and when I ride my horse.
The cobbled streets of Colonial Williamsburg, the shooting range, the family cabin in the mountains.
i would wear them on a trip cross country to learn everything every state has to offer.
I’d wear them while choppin wood.
I’d gladly wear these boots on days that end in “Y.” Thanks for the opportunity.
I would wear them while searching the woods of northern Michigan for morels and bigfoot.
I would wear them while singlehandedly rescuing damsels from fires, and kittens from trees. The other had would be occupied punching bad guys.
I would wear them on a trip around the United States to visit every major league ballpark during the baseball season
Id wear these timeless classics to work, I am a nurse on a behavioral health unit for adolescents. Tradition and values need to be reiterated with this young generation and great conversation item.
Awesome. Asked for a pair for my 10 year wedding anniversary gift. The answer was no.
Up to the property to build the new house.
Where wouldn’t I wear them? I’d wear them to my grave. And then be buried in them.
I’d wear them working on the ranch.
