Several months ago my grandpa sent me my great-grandfather’s straight razor. It was in okay condition, but it needed work. So I sent it to Sebastian at Razor Emporium. They fixed a crack on the scales (the plastic part that the razor folds into), polished it up, and had it honed by a master sharpener. I was able to shave with it right out of the shipping box, and boy did it shave nice. It was a pretty cool moment to shave with a straight razor used by my grandpa and great-grandpa. As an added bonus, Sebastian included a nice little write-up on my razor’s history, informing me of where it was made and the approximate date it was manufactured. Needless to say, getting a hold of an old family razor and having it restored to its former glory would make a very, very cool Christmas gift for a man.

After reading some of the articles on here about old-fashioned shaving, I started shopping around to start building my kit. I found some great all natural wet shave soap and a badger brush… I was saving up for a nice straight razor and strop when my whole department was unexpectedly laid off in October. Needless to say, that money was put towards more pressing needs. I would be thrilled to win this beautiful set and finally get started with a straight razor!

The routine, the smells, the close and smooth shave, the improved skin condition from the soaps – It’s been great! Thank you for the inspiration AoM!

I’ve even taught my 3-year old how to shave. He soaps up, and scrapes the soap off (safety razor with no blade – it’s a built-in training tool!). Then he toddles off and tells mom “Daddy and I shaved! … See how smooth?”

The one trouble is that the water at my house is extraordinarily hard (think ‘toxic mine-waste’), and its real hard on my safety razor. I would love the Rhodium-Plated razor, as these have superb corrosion resistance, and remain handsome in adverse environments.
