Hey everyone. You may have noticed the radio silence the past few days. There’s a perfectly good reason for it.

Yesterday at 6:10 PM Kate and I welcomed our first child into the world. His name is Augustus George McKay. We’re calling him Gus.
Gus weighed in at 7 lbs 10 oz and measured 22 inches in length. He’s also devilishly handsome. Mom and baby are doing great. Mom and dad are tired, but we can’t stop grinning from ear to ear.
We’re taking some time off to get to know this little guy, but we’ll be back really soon! In the mean time, check out our archives. We have nearly 1,000 articles on the site and you can spend hours browsing and reading the manly info we have there. That should keep you busy while we’re gone.
Kate and I feel blessed and excited to have Gus in our family. Please give a warm AoM welcome to Gus McKay!

Congrats guys, may God bless your child and your new grown family! :)
Congratulations to the both of you.
Congratulations Brett and Kate!
Welcome Augustus!
Wow, WOW. Congratulations, guys!!
*harrumph*
HUZZAH…huzzah.
Welcome Augustus!
Bret,
Congrats. As a father of two young children myself, I have found that becoming a father has contributed more to my manliness than anything else I have ever done, including playing rugby, practicing judo and jujitsu, driving a bad-ass muscle car or earning a Master’s degree. The realization that I am responsible for another life and must guide and protect them has given me a true purpose in life, which is the most manly of all things in my opinion. Enjoy your new baby boy!
Congratulations and God bless!
FANTASTIC news, Brett & Kate! I hope you continue to grow in your pursuit of manliness as you lead Gus down this path. I pray you are continually blessed as your family grows in number and you all grow closer to one another.
Congrats Brett and Kate! Love the name Gus by the way.
Mazal Tov !!
HUZZAH and CONGRATULATIONS!
Congrats!! That’s excellent!
And that is a manly awesome name that kid’s got.
If you have any animals, take the blank that the baby is wrapped in and take it home for the animals to sniff, good time to get the animals used to the smell. When time allows, post a pic with the baby wearing some facial fair, hat, and holding a straight razor.
Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!!
There is absolutely nothing better in the whole wide world than to hold your first born in your arms for the first time! — I can’t help but smile from ear to ear for you !!
God Bless!!
Congratulations!!!!
Blessings upon your house!!!!
Congratulations Brett and Kate!
Congratulations! It’s a really sweet time when you bring home a baby. I’ll be doing again in January. Thanks for the great blog.

Congratulations! You’re a father! Enjoy some well deserved time off.
Congrats; now the true test of manliness begins…
Way to go! I didn’t realize that, until this week, you weren’t yet a father. Wow. It’s hard to believe that your insights into manhood will get even deeper, but–a father of a seven-year-old boy myself–I know that they will. Best wishes to the three of you.
Congratulations! Brett and Kate!
Welcome, Gus!
Being a quality husband and father is awesome. Each has its challenges, but each has brought me great joy.
Every success.
What a blessing!! Congratulations! May God bless your wonderful family.
Congratulations you two!
God couldn’t have sent you a better, or manlier, gift. Sons rock, I’m told. I’m sure yours will make waves. God bless, and congratulations to the lucky couple!

Wonderful news!!!!! Congratulations. My wife and I are expecting our first child this March.
Congratulations Brett and Kate! He will be the manliest infant in America…. Best wishes!!
now is your chance to prove you definitely know how to raise a man.
Congratulations guys. You guys have a lot of “firsts” to look forward to. Take plenty of pictures, record anything he does…video, journal or a napkin in a restaurant. If you don’t then a few months after he stops doing that particular cute behavior you will be asking each other “what was that cute thing Augustus did?”. Cherish these moments you never get them back.
Don’t worry about the blog. Take time for the family. We will be here when you adjust to the new schedule. And it will be an adjustment. But worth every sacrifice.
Congrats again.
Fantastic news! Cheers to you and Kate.
Brett & Kate,
Congratulations! I couldn’t imagine a better dad!!
All hail (future) emperor Augustus! :-)
Bob
Bully Good Show! kudos to you and yours
Congratulations, your son couldn´t have picked a better family….
Dear Brett and Kate,
Congratulations on the birth of your new son. In spite of the fact that I do not know you personally, I am sure that you will raise your son to become a fine man. I will keep your family in my prayers.
I leave you with this quote from author James Stenson from “Successful Fathers”
“Both parents, mother and father, have given their children lifelong strengths of character and conscience; and thus their job is done. This is, after all, what family life – throughout history and around the world – really is about. ”
I trust you will step up to this task with great fortitude, and great success.
Pax et bonum,
Robert
Congrats mate! All the best to you!
Congratulations on the birth of a new member of your family. May your son grow up being healthy, happy and blessed throughout his life.

I love your website and feel it makes me a better man and dad. I have two girls and it’s the most rewarding and demanding job there is. Congrats to you and your family. You’ll be amazed at how much you can bond with your child at this stage and how it will positively effect your future relationship with your baby. Take your time.
Very happy for you et all.
Congratulation! God bless Gus, and his parents. Take all the time you need. You have just started a new life.

Congratulations! I hope that Mrs. McKay and Gus are doing well, sir.
Congratulations. My name is August and everyone calls me Gus. It’s great to hear that there are others out there. I was named after my Grandfather, a pretty manly guy. Anyhow, congratulations again.
Thank you from another Augustus. Before my Grandfather died there were four of us in my family.
congratulations to the three of you! Let us raise our tankards high in celebration!
Many congratulations!
I can still remember my first Invited’s birth. Talk about a major manliness gut-check.

Congrats, Brett and Kate! I’m very happy for you. Does this mean that you’re gonna come out with a new series of books: Letters to My Newborn Son? ;) Really great news though!
can i murder your baby
Brett and Kay,
Congrats! I hope he will be everything to you.
-Charlie M-You’re a scumbag and don’t forget to register with law enforcement next time you move to another trailer park. More than likely, you’re an 18 year old punk kid who still lives with his parents and is taking time out from facebook and PS3 to pollute this site with your garbage. A man you are not, sir.
Congratulations and all the best wishes! And Augustus is a beautiful name, excellent choice.
Congratulations! This is such an exciting time! I wish the best for all three of you.
Dear Kate and Brett,
congratulations with your new son, Gus!
Congrats.
Congratulations! I’m sure that you’ll be able to discover many manly “Father to Son” moments to add on the site.
I will molest your baby
Ok that was over the top
I’ll stop trolling
Sorry
Congratulations and Best Wishes!!
God Bless your family!
Congratulations!!! I love the name!!
Joe
Congrats.
Congrats Brett!! You started him off with a powerful name. I take it now we will have more of your fatherly perpectives as he grows up.
Slainte
Congratulations to both of you. With a name like Augustus he is bound to succeed.
Congratulations. He’ll change your lives in ways you could never imagine. I have a 3-year-old daughter and a son on the way myself. Family is the most wonderful thing in the world.
Huzzah! And congratulations to you both! To echo many others, Augustus George is a fine handle to bestow upon your firstborn. I wish y’all all health and joy as “Gus” grows and develops.
I would like to add my congratulations to all those above! I wish you all the very best!
And as a classicist, I have nothing but admiration for your choice of appellation.
Cheers,
JM
Congratulations!
Great news! Congratulations to the parents, hopefully you caught up on your sleep before Gus was born :~)
Congrats and best wishes to all the members of your family from ours (that includes the AOM family that you have developed). I imagine that we will be seeing Gus as a contributor to the site soon?
Yay you!
Congratulations! I thought my love for my wife was something, but something is different about the love for my son and daughter. I’m sure you will feel the same way. Well done!
Warmest congratulations.
Great name!
From one (relatively) new father to another, congratulations! Don’t worry; the sleep will come back in 6 months or so…
Congratulations! May you ever teach him what it means to be a true man!
Contratulations!
Congrats! Perhaps when you’re back at the blog you can reflect on what it’s like to become a father for the first time and how a man’s role in the family changes once you and your wife have children. I think a lot of guys feel lost about that and it would be great to start a conversation about that.
Congrats Brett and Kate. I always thought I would name my son Augustus if I had one, instead I received a girl. That’s a great manly name. Now I’m thinking more along the lines of Singleton or Basil. I’m sure he’s destined for awesomeness.
Congrats!
Congratulations indeed! One of the manliest things a guy can do is to raise a young boy to manhood. A wonderful journey in front of you and Kate. Revel in the joy of it all.
