This was such a great feat for a skydiver to have accomplished. He contributed a lot to the skydiving world and his name will be engraved in the skydiving books forever. Such a brave man to have done such a thing in a time when skydiving equipments are still limited.

Not to be pedantic, but it should technically be that he didn’t have one molecule of oxygen left, not one atom (O by itself is unstable and rarely if ever exists in nature, and O2 is the stuff we breathe).

But good hell this is a real man. Something to think about next time I complain that sitting in front of a computer all day is “hard.”

I was friend’s with Kittinger’s grandson when I was in college and got a chance to meet and have dinner with the Colonel. An amazing man. Coolest grandfather ever.

Absolutely phenomenal man. This story gave me chills as i tried to picture myself jumping from space to earth. Truly this man had to feel more isolated for that brief time than any person in human history. At least astronauts have the comfort of a vessel and companions; this man threw himself naked before the world without knowing what would happen to him. I would be bound with the fear of burning in the atmosphere, too much sun radiation/exposure, being carried off by the jet stream, losing consciousness, losing too much oxygen… the list goes on. I doubt i would have the guts to step out of that balloon. Truly a spectacle of worthy manliness.

Not to sound crude. But one detail was left out of the story. Kittinger was almost rejected from these experiments due to a wardrobe issue… They were having a hard time fitting his massive testicles into the jump suits…
