The pull of travel, of the open road. Every man feels its tug, but not every man is ready to answer the call. When the opportunity for an adventure arises, a man needs to be prepared to pack his bags, jump in his car, hop a plane or train, or mount his trusty steed. A man needs a few pieces of trusty gear ready to accompany him on every adventure, gear that will last for decades of trips and experiences, gear that will take whatever he dishes out and keep on ticking. Here’s your chance to win the travel gear you’ll carry with you the rest of your life.
This giveaway is huge. Saddleback Leather Company, the craftsmen who create the sturdiest, manliest, best-made leather goods on the planet, is giving away an overnight bag, a small travel case, a laptop sleeve, and a passport wallet. Four manly pieces of gear that all come with Saddleback’s unmatchable 100 year warranty. And you get to choose the colors you want.
You’ll have plenty of stories to tell your kids about where these pieces of gear have been, and they’ll be fighting over them when you’re dead.
Let’s take a look at the amazing booty up for grabs in this giveaway:
Overnight Bag
A man doesn’t use a wheelie bag. He carries something like this. The overnight bag is perfect for your spontaneous short trips. This bag is big enough for all your manly essentials. It has a false bottom where you can keep documents, pictures, and treasure maps without creasing them. And it fits in the luggage compartment of planes, allowing your to stride past the baggage check and get on with your adventure.
Small Travel Case
Every man needs a quality dopp kit to hold his toiletries and other supplies. But this travel case is far more than your typical dopp kit. Made with a detachable shoulder strap, thick, stout, full grain boot leather, and a tough pigskin liner, this is the one travel case that’s made to last a century. You can use it for your toiletry bag, or you can pack it with ammo, first aid supplies or even your lunch.
Laptop Sleeve (size to be determined by the lucky winner since there are 7 sizes)

The laptop sleeve is the latest leather creation from Saddleback. They’re not even out yet-the Saddleback laptop sleeve debuts on July 20. You can be one of the first to start protecting your laptop with stylish sturdability. Yup, I just made that word up.
Passport Wallet
Made with 100% full-grain boot leather, this wallet keeps your money, credit cards, and money all in one place.

I’d spend a long weekend in Morocco, then follow it up with a few days in Spain. Bogart meets Hemingway, 21st century style.
I would spend a weekend touring Germany. I’ve been researching my family history, and would love to see the area where our family tree began.
I’m going to Germany for work related reasons, and I expect to travel all around Europe for a couple of years for leisure once in a while. I’d use the overnight bag for my short getaways all over Europe (I like to travel light), use it to carry my shaving equipment some clothes etc; I’d take the travel case in the train for shorter trips because backpacks don’t do it for me. I’d get outside in the wilderness and carry some rations and tools, etc. Rugged stuff and the like.
Oh man now I’m getting excited, I hope I win :)
I would love to take a trip to Greece and be able to explore the culture and food and be able to carry everything in my Saddleback Gear!!
Maybe I’d use these bags for work purposes; I’m trying to start a custom home entertainment install company. These types of bags would look absolutely professional when I have to travel to customer’s houses in vacation areas to do their homes.
I’d probably start in Germany and make my way through the rest of western Europe.
The Islay of Islay to tour the distilleries. Or on safari for cape buffalo.
A long weekend in London being a tourist and cooling off in the nearest pub.
I’d take this gear to the Okavango river delta in Africa, I’ve always wanted to see that region.
I would take a tour of Japan and southeast Asia.
I would go hiking in the Adirondack Mountains or maybe out west in the Rockies, either way the scenery would be majestic
Hawaii. I’ve been once, and want to go back every day.
New Zealand’s South Island.
A secluded tropical island getaway! Just sound of the ocean on the beach, hot sun and a hot little lady beside me. Couple of cold beers would be nice too.
This gear would be absolutely amazing to win; I have been fantasizing about all of the places my wife and I could take it. First on the list: Alaska. She has been but I never have. We have family in Seattle which would be a wonderful base for trips to Alaska as well as a drive and hiking down the Pacific/Oregon coast. — We also may have the opportunity to spend a summer abroad in Germany either next year or the following which would be a wonderful addition to our expeditions. I vow that if I win, this set of leather goods will not collect dust but will inspire and be a part of wanderlust and adventure.
I would definitely take my wife to Vienna. She lived there for a time and I have always wanted to see the places she would call me from when we were “dating”. I would also search for a main spring for the pocket watch that I inherited. Genuine leather is the only way to transport precious sprockets, gears, and springs.
I’d go to the mountains of Colorado.
My wife is pregnant, so I would take it to the hospital and use it to store my overnight stuff in. I’d probably even put something in there for my wife as she’d be doing most of the work. Then it would transform into the coolest diaper bag ever and would follow me and my new son or daughter for the rest of their life. The best thing about it is that I could really put that “They’ll fight over it when you’re dead” slogan to the test.
I think I would pack up and go to Maui!
I would head off for Spain, and probably wander into Portugal. Without a doubt! And, I would be welll packed.
This gear is unbelievable and would be ecstatic to win them. I would use these for my trip exploring the United States. My wife and I swore to each other that we would take this trip when I first started chiropractic college. And now that graduation is coming up soon, this would be excellent and make traveling much more convenient and make me feel more like a MAN!
I would take a trip to Vancouver, Canada, then pick up my brother-in-law and make a trip to London and see the real London, not the tourist traps.
I would finally take my wife to her family’s home village in Italy, which is now deserted, except for once a year when the families return to remember . . .
If I had a (long) weekend trip to use these bags I would take a train ride up the west coast from L.A. through Seattle. I’ve always wanted to take an old fashion train ride with a nice sleeper car and the wife… it seems like a great way to see the country.
I would very much like to go to Ubekistan to see the cities of Bukhara and Samarqand.
I would travel to India with my wife who has always wanted to make the trip!
If I could get up and go anywhere I’d check out New Zealand.
I’m itching to go to cuba with my girl.
I would travel to the Yucutan Peninsula to admire the Jungles and pyramids.
Nagano, Japan
South Africa.
Australia. is there a more manly place than the Australian outback?
San Francisco. It’s been a great summer, I’ve traveled to a good deal of cities in the east coast and finally got to see the Rocky Mountains as I flew over to Salt Lake City. I’d like to return, fly over to San Fran to visit with some good friends. Go on long bike rides along the coast.
I’d visit the beaches of Normandy first to see where my grandad fought alongside thousand of other brave men. I’d then travel to other battlefields across Northern Europe to pay my respects.
I would leave for Gough Island – Tristan da Cunha, but that would be much longer than a weekend.
For just two days, i would fly to Corsica.
I’d go to Scandinavia
Strap em on the motorcycle and travel along the west coast starting in AZ and ride up to WA. Camping along the way.
We have so many beautiful places in Europe, i never came out. :)
I’d go to visit New Zealand and take the great train tour to discover the country.
Greets from Germany,
frey
I would love to spent a solid week sitting on a beach in the Mediterranean. I’ve also enjoyed myself quite thoroughly over in Safety Harbor (around Tampa Bay, FL), but Europe is calling to me.
I’d take a train on the transsiberian railway through Russia, or maybe the transmongolian. Several stops along the way and then make my way to southeast Asia and continue where ever…
I would go to Scotland just so I can wear a kilt.
I really really really really really want to go to Octoberfest in Germany. Nothing screams manly like gallons of great beer, sausage and singing traditional German folk songs.
I’d love to win this for my husband. Our dream get-away weekend would be to the lake country in England. We’ve been dying to go to England together and hope to someday make lots of trips there focusing on different counties, but the lake country would have to come first.
Anywhere I could drive my travel trailer and get lost in the woods with my magnificent lady and disturb the animals with our lovemaking.
I would take a weekend trip to Calabria, Italy, where my family is from
This week it would be Seatle, a good friend of mine has just moved out and he owes me a rock climbing trip.
Next week who knows, I’d love to bike South America.
There are so many differnt places to go back to and spend time, my fav would probably be Banff in Canada as that is where I grew up and first started learning Bushcraft, it is where I first discovered my wanderlust. Another place would be the Baltic states as that is where my girlfriend is from and there are some amazing wood and mountains to climb, hike and drive off road on.
I would explore where my family came from in the Isle of Man, between Ireland and England. I have a feeling this bag would be very much at home along the rocky coast line and ancient towns.
a weekend, huh? Hilton Head, SC. beautiful beaches, warm sunny weather.
It’s hot as Hades right now in Tennessee, so I would take my luggage up in latitude and elevation, maybe Lake Louise in Canada.
I’d pick my luggage up, fly to San Diego and then drive down the Baja Peninsula stopping at taco stands along the way. I’d make my way to the beach and sit down in that white sand with a bucket of ice cold Corona’s and spend those two glorious days looking out over the ocean.
I’ve always wanted to go and tour the distilleries of Scotland. So I would pack up my family, fly to Scotland, rent a car or maybe some bicycles and set off to tour (and taste) as much of Scotland as I could.
I would pack up and spend the weekend traveling in Mexico, probably Guanajuato or Ixtapan de la Sal, both lovely places for a weekend!
Still keen on the Okavango Delta. Would have loved the gear for leavng Hawaii as we had epicly bad luggage dramas when transfering flights, have now vowed to always travel super light and this gear would be perfect. Got everything that is capable of being crossed crossed in hopes of bagging this, no pun intended.
Where would I go for a weekend with these bags???
Ireland! My wife and I are headed for a 4 day weekend in Ireland at the end of August to celebrate our one year anniversary! A couple of days in Dublin hanging out in the Temple Bar District and then we are road tripping to Galway, Cliffs of Moor, and Shannon for a couple of days before returning to the U.S.
I can’t think of a better way to “break in” some of these fine leather products than dragging them all over southern Ireland while enjoying some delicious Guinness Beer® and Jamison Irish “wine”!
I would take my beautiful wife to the Carribean & enjoy the sun & waves with a drink in my hand.
I would take a room in the fishing village of Mousehole, Cornwall. I would rise early in the morning, take my Saddleback gear and hike the 18km west over to Lands End where I would scramble up on a craggy pinnacle facing the Atlantic, remove my clothes and eat a mole, raw, in a freezing westerly gale. I would then retire to the pub in Treen and, sitting by the coal burning stove, drink several pints of local brew with the resident Jack Russel Terrier sitting on my lap while reading a translation of the Art of Manliness, aloud, in Ciceronian latin.
These bags will be coming with me on a motorcycle trip from seattle to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Before then I would say a week long road trip through montana.
Anywhere? Rome. Definitely Rome.
Golly, this is such a beautiful set, too. My husband would get such use out of it, being Travel Man and all.
The entirety of Europe, preferably around the Mediterranean. I’ve never left the US and would die to see my roots in Greece and Italy.
Greece
Thanks!
The Island of Madeira sounds like a great place to go, it has wineries, sailing, hiking beautiful Mediterranean weather and scenery, and it is very affordable for all that.
I would go to Brazil. While I am there I would fish for piranha, wrestle alligators, and win a Jiu Jitsu tournament while smoking an ornate handcrafted pipe. Obviously I would need the weekend bag to carry the gear required.
Road Trip across the US, again. Only solo this time…
I would just keep going to school and graduate, but after that I’d use them wherever the Navy takes me. Unless that’s the middle of the ocean, then I’d let my brother borrow them as he travels South America.
Tough choice, but I have always wanted check out all that New Zealand has to offer. So I would definitely tool around the diverse habitats the country has to offer.
http://gearpatrol.com/blog/2008/05/23/explora-patagonia-hotel-salto-chico/
hotel salto chico.
patagonia.
hands down.
With my trusty Saddleback Leather Overnight Bag slung over my shoulder, I would head to Reykjavík, Iceland.
A wimpy nylon bag may not hold up against the sharp edges of an ancient lava flow, but Saddleback leather products are made for the challenge of checking out the red volcanic craters at Rauðhólar,
My bag would be large enough to hold fresh clothes and toiletries as I enjoyed a long soak at the geothermal spa at the Blue Lagoon. A drop of mustard would not leave a stain on my bag as I wolffed down a hotdog at the best hotdog stand in town, the Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur.
Finally, I’d have all my prized possessions and souvenirs in the overnight bag as I went bar-hopping along Laugavegur in downtown Reykjavík.
Everywhere I went, people might not waste a second glance at me, but they would zero in on my trusty Overnight Bag and the rush to their computer to get their own Saddleback Leather Bag.
Dave
A nice road trip around the US would be great! Living on the open road and finishing with a trip to the Grand Canyon.
I would love to take this down to Utila the smallest of the Bay islands off the coast of Honduras.
If travel time doesn’t count, Australia or NZ would rock, but if it does, I’m not flying there and back in a weekend.
If travel time counts, I’d do something closer. Upstate NY is really nice, or fly into SeaTac and take a road trip from Seattle down the coast through Oregon and California. Or if it’s hot, drive north from there instead. There are some really awesome views in that area.
Snowboarding throughout New Zealand.
I’d love to get out to British Columbia. I’ve heard fabulous things about the climate, the terrain, and the opportunities to ride my bike.
Without a doubt this luggage would be very useful on a rúntur of Iceland. Good luck to everybody who has entered. Some lucky person is going to be getting an amazing prize.
I’d spend a weekend in the rockies, punching bears and choking out mountain lions. Then I’d fill up that gorgeous dopp kit with rocks and use it to kill my dinner. Talk about testing out the durability! I’d lay under the stars at night, next to a fire, freshly smitten elk on a spit, and knock back a couple hard drinks while reading Hemingway’s “The Snows of Kilimanjaro”. Now THAT is living.
I would take them to the Green River Formation in Wyoming where I would spend the weekend digging for fossils from the Eociene epoch (the location has the best fossilized fish ANYWHERE). I would, after that, go a half hour east of there and dig some Blue Forest Petrified Wood after which I would set up a primitive camp on the open range government land and watch the antelope and wild horses.
the upper keys, on the atlantic side, fishing and smoking and listening to some cuban tunes
I would take a weekend traveling down the baja peninsula.
I feel the need to return to Uganda, to Murchison Falls State Park. I fondly remember driving up the deeply rutted road through the Rabongo Forest, dodging bits of fruit rind being flung by the indigenous chimpanzee.
Once inside the Park I would dine at the guest centre, enjoy the taste of a Nile beer, and soon ensconce myself in one of the safari huts awaiting nightfall. When the generators go off the stars overwhelm the senses, the ebullient stream of the Milky Way stretching from horizon to horizon, free from the pollution by the light of any city. I must remember to breathe.
The next morning: the journey across the savanna, looking for lion and any other of the dozens of species of wildlife. A light lunch on the plain and then up the Nile in the afternoon, which journey brings one within a few yards of hippo, elephant and crocodile, with the occasional Shoebill Crane sighting. Alighting on the right bank, I will tighten my boot laces and pay the small “guide fee” to the boy there, who will lead me up the winding rock path–140 feet above the basin–to the top of Murcheson Falls.
Returning after delighting in the mist and beauty of this narrow, rapid torrent, I will once again enjoy the hospitality of the guest centre, spend one more night under the riot of stars before I must return to Kampala, to Entebbe and to “civilization”.
I would take a trip to Wisconsin to see my beautiful girlfriend.
Damn there are a ton of comments. I would probably go visit my girlfriend in Kansas City and show off those rugged bags and cowboy it up in the city.
I would go to Mount Rainier National Park. Cool, crisp air, mountain streams perfect for fishing. Fresh food and good beer. I’m a simple man and for me, it can’t get much better than that.
I would head to Sienna Italy for the Palio in August…nothing like a historical horse race in the town square.
I’ve already picked up and gone on my dream trip. 4 months ago I left my high-paying job behind and headed to South Asia. I am currently living in Taiwan and going on plenty of manly adventures.
The next trip I am planning is to the East coast of Taiwan to a place called Hualien. Here I plan to go night fishing to taste the sweet flesh of flying fish.
Cedar Key, Florida
I would travel west by train. I’ve been in a real western mood lately. I’d take a train out west, stopping in interesting towns to meet the locals. I’d stay at small bed/breakfast or hostels, and arrive at some ranch in Montana or Arizona, and live like it was 1880 for a while. That’s the mood I’m in now.
I would quit my job and spend 3 months travelling through either India or Eastern Europe…maybe both!
Venice, Italy.
I was born in Bogota, Colombia, and have traveled many places, but have never been back. I would explore my birth city.
i’d go to fiji for two weeks and bask in the glory
Something is calling me toward Budapest, and I think it’s about time to listen to it. That’d be my trip.
I’d take my wife to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she was born, and where she hasn’t been for many years, and I have never been. I’d also take our two sons to see where their mother was born.
Sardinia. My stepfather-in-law regaled me of the culture and food on the island; it was his favorite place in all of Italy. I’ve been itching to take the wife on a holiday there ever since. Looking pretty strongly at a surprise this winter!
Patagonia, hands down. It seems like a place you could lose yourself in: wild, empty, and beautiful.
I would throw the bags and the Wife in the car and head down the East Coast of the US for a nice long drive to St Augustine, FL. I am sure they (the bags) could handle a few weeks on the road and by the beach. I know my Wife would LOVE it!
I’d hike in the rockies.
There is a great little sea-side resort by the name of Moulin Sur Mer about a 2 hour drive up the coast from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I can’t think of a better way to use my new bags and help the Haitian economy at the same time.
First and foremost…to Rio for the best steak you’ll ever heat at Porcao’s, then off to the “Cristo Redemptor” and then to Sugar Loaf Mountain from there..the beach and roadside vendors and kiosks…muita bom….then the other parts of Brazil like Sao Paulo…then Buenos Aires…then Thailand…then back to Rio to cap it off…
Europe, not sure where though.
I would see as much of Australia as possible in the time I had.
