I was watching a John Stewart interview of Daniel Okrent, who wrote a book on the prohibition. Here is a link to the interview: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/08/daniel-okrent-on-jon-stew_n_639530.html

The interesting thing is that the women's suffrage movement had a lot to do with the prohibition. Before the prohibition, the "saloon" was an all-male establishment, where men would get together and drink. In the 20's women were introduced into bars, and the birth of the night club occurred.

I was just thinking about this all-male establishment and how it simply does not exist anymore. Where can a man just hang out with his buddies and escape "the chase"? I think they have found alternatives; golf, hunting, etc. There needs to be this boys-only club in order to reset, to bond with other males without women distracting. It seems kind of sexist in today's uber sensitive liberal society, but each gender needs to be isolated at least a little bit in order to fully appreciate who they are, I believe.

I was just very intrigued by the whole all-male saloon thing. I think it was a much better establishment than the trashy night clubs of today, where it's all about sex and not at all about friendship, discussion of ideas, and bonding with others.

Just a thought.
