As an aside from the whole JC/Badass thing, I just want to mention that I thought the actual book, “Baddass” took great material and rendered it unreadable. It is as though a High School sophomore was doing a really mediocre history presentation. “Oh yeah?” said Alexander the Great. “Well, you Scythian girly-boys can kiss my butt!” The Deadliest Men by Paul Kirchner covers some of the same material and is much, much better.

Hey, this is Jared again… I have no beef against the site… I still have a link to A of M on the site, I just don’t have it featured any more. I actually didn’t notice the issue myself. I don’t expect any special treatment as the site I’m administering is very low traffic, with a very specific and sensitive audience. For my audience, “badass” borders on profanity. Christ would probably have spent most of his time among those with “salty language,” though I doubt he used any himself.
Anyhow, I appreciate most of the input that followed. I also think the comments about Christ as a badass aren’t inaccurate, just perhaps a little on the irreverent side. He came as both a lamb and a lion. What real man doesn’t want to carry both of those qualities with such a perfect balance?

When did Art of Manliness become a religious website? If you want to shut the door on a great website because certain things offend you then it’s your waste. Besides, it was meant as a compliment as such you should take it.

I’m just assuming here, but I don’t think Jared’s beef is with whether or not Jesus was manly, but the use of inappropriate language on a religious website.

In John 2:12 Jesus ran everyone and everything out of the Temple, scattered the merchant’s money, and overturned their tables saying, “Get those out of here, how dare you turn My Father’s house into a market.”

When the wine ran out at a wedding Jesus was attending He had the servants fill their jars with water and serve it. Not only did it turn to wine, but people commented that it was better than the first batch consumed.

I can understand your initial reaction from having Jesus’ name on the same page as the words “bad ass” but I think it’s a little short sighted. Jesus wasn’t a “don’t make waves” kind of guy. He was all about challenging the status quo. He never backed down from a fight, never turned His back on a friend, and He never quit. Oh yeah, Jesus is a badass, no doubt in my mind, but that’s just my opinion.

That is a real shame, Jared…..because Jesus was one of the greatest badasses of all time. Really. We need to get away from this Jesus that likes lace doilies and would cover his hears in the presence of salty language. Jesus was a bold revolutionary who willing got crucified to save other people. What’s more badass than that?

My personal page is jaredrdavis.com, but I have been promoting the art of manliness on a community blog for young married men in my church…as much as I love the blog and am not personally offended, I now have to remove the auto rss feed of AofM from our sight…Christ and badass on the same page don’t really jive. Keep up the good work…shame about this coincidence, but I thought I should at least mention it, right?
