Jared,

I'm not trying to discount men's causes and I certainly support idea that men should hold claim to their manliness and all that involves. I'm not sure, however, whether this movie will help or hurt. Someone who picks up a rifle for the first time to deer hunt "for the sake of manliness" (or however he stated it) is trying too hard and not doing that for the right reasons. I sense a subtle satire when I watch that trailer, akin to The Colbert Report, that I think most people will miss and will, in the end, detract from the cause the movie professes to support.

I'm calling BS on Matthew's comment. How does the increasing sales of men's hair products, men having their armpits waxed, men wearing female style clothes not have to do with the decline of manliness? Instead of spending their time working on their values, men are spending their time thinking about their appearance. And instead of being proud of their distinctive masculinity and wanting to keep the genders distinctive, they're trying to look and act like women.

I can't tell if the movie is going to be superficial or the funny stuff is simply a means to an end. But as a gentleman, I'll withhold judgment until I see the whole thing.

I'm calling BS on the "Emasculating Truth" movie. Increasing sales of men's hair products and distressed clothing are signs that manliness is on the decline? Come on! One of his "sources" was a "study" done by a stand-up comic (Dmitri Martin, check the PDF on the web site). This "movie" is either a farce or is being produced by someone who's not comfortable with his own manliness, much less qualified to preach to anyone else about it.

Umm... Supporting Autism Speaks isn't very manly at all.

Real men always help disabled and disadvantaged - not try to wipe them off the face of the Planet by funding an organisation, the like of which has never been seen in human history.

By the time they've cleansed the Genepool of Autistic traits (which are archetypally male) there will be no Manly men left at all. Just limpwristed girly-men.

re: the testosterone movie

Bad idea...not the idea for the movie, but having the clown starring in it pursue "manly" activities apparently for laughs. This IS a serious topic on many levels, and a few clips from the trailer appear to address it. But having this guy go hunting, enter a rodeo, etc, does not help make the point but appears to poke fun at it. Maybe that's really the point? Dunno, haven't seen the movie, so maybe I'm seeing those clips out of some proper context. But judging by the trailer, it looks like just another movie designed to denigrate and celebrate the loss of manliness by taking it less than seriously.
