You appear to have attributed this to the wrong person. Josiah did write a poem entitled “God, give us men”, however, he did not write this poem shown on AOM entitled “Give Us Men.” A google search of the first 4 lines of this poem will bring you to a pdf of a newspaper from November of 1910 (vol IX, #2). The Honolulu Times printed the poem that you have listed above in it’s entirety and it’s attributed to the Bishop of Exeter (which would have been Archibald Robertson in 1910).

I’ve found the poem attributed to the Bishop of Exeter printed on a postcard at “http://beck.library.emory.edu/greatwar/postcards/view.php?id=give_us_men”

It’s also listed and attributed to the Bishop, in the very manly book entitled “The Spirit of Democracy”. A great poem really
When I first heard of it
I thought it a prose so picky
But now I know and need
The prayer so aptly wrapped
God give us men so free and frank
For there are frank men not free
And free men not so frank
And only those free and frank
Know the art of being a man
I have been through the two
So I know these swings of man

I do not think it was the intention, but this entry was really, really, really camp. Like mustaches, Joel Cairo, regional theater camp.

Which is humorous, considering the “throwback” tenor of most articles.

This really reminded of a great poem they used to instill at the Air Force Academy. It’s a sad day when they decided it no longer applied to men and women alike. It’s pretty powerful stuff.

Bring me men to match my mountains,
Bring me men to match my plains;
Men to chart a starry empire,
Men to make celestial claims.
Bring me men to match my prairies,
Men to match my inland seas;
Men to sail beyond my oceans,
Reaching for the galaxies.

Men who, when the shit hits the fan,
Turn their back to those that ran,
Men whom in the face of danger,
know the right way to direct their anger.
Men who look to others first,
And see no one as less or cursed.
Men who will be true to one,
