Dropping by to read your interview. One piece of advice you give that I think is brilliant is this: “…if you want to be one of the best, take it to the next level. Voraciously devour everything written about your market, and start reading about other industries with the goal of understanding how ideas in these industries are applicable to your field.”

There’s nothing like cross-training your knowledge and skills to learn how to adapt your field and your products to stay a cut above the rest. Not only that, but being well read and knowledgeable about the different industries gives you flexibility in your own business. Being stuck because you don’t know something can get pretty frustrating.

As someone who has started and then closed a business or two, I have learned MY lesson!

Nice job. Be proud. My grandfather came over on the boat from Geveta Nova (sp) in Italy when he was in his teens. Decio Barbatelli. He was a tailor in New Haven, CT. As the youngest of the grandchildren I didn’t ever have a suit made. Some sport coats as a young man. My office is decorated old black and white photos of Grandpa Decio in during the 40′s and 50′s. All the men in the photos are wearing his suits, shirts and ties. It a great heritage. What you do has impact way beyond just your clients. You make them and their experiences more memorable.
