I am going to McMurdo this winter for a construction/maintenance laborer position and am having a hard time finding recomendation for personal gear such as boots undergarments, and clothing in general. Any addvice on this or websites to read would be greatly appreciated.

I work down on the Ice as well. First year at McMurdo and South Pole this year. I’m a chef down there. True, it’s damn cold… but it’s not that bad. We have good gear and the buildings are usually pretty warm. Plus there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained when your not working.

I ‘m pretty sure that is is a job I would never apply for. Being cold all the time would be no bueno for me!

The kind of internal strength it would take to be at the South Pole for months out of the year is admirable.
